ArabNet Readers in Q3 of 2012 [Infographic]
Today we present you with a detailed infographic on the nature of our very own readers for the third quarter of 2012: July 1st – September 30th. Tens of thousands of visits flocked to the website during this period which represents a random sample of web users in the region in general.
While choosing our indicators, we took into consideration the countries from which traffic originated, the speed of their connection, although we acknowledge that there is an inversely proportionate margin of error to the number of unique visitors from each separate country, the operating systems, browsers, mobile devices, among many others.
Around 21% of the visitors during this period were Saudi Arabia dwellers, followed by Egypt with 15%, then Lebanon with 13%, and the USA with 7%.
The difference in the average Internet speed is notable between the different countries. We used one country from Europe, the Czech Republic, where the average time it takes to load the website is 1.43 seconds, as a reference point for comparison. Then we observed the speeds country by country in the region starting with Turkey with 4.01 sec, Bahrain 7.96 s, Qatar 12.59 s, Morocco 20.45 s, all the way to Palestine, which is not featured in the infographic, where the Internet was the slowest with 49.07 seconds.
80% of our readers use English as the default language, while only 12% use Arabic.
65% use Windows, while 16% use Apple’s OS X, and less than 3% use Linux.
On the browser front, Chrome leads with 46% of visitors, Firefox ranks second with 20%, while Safari and Internet Explorer share 12% each.
24% of visitors land straight on the website, while 32% are redirected from search engines where Google dominates with 99%. Meanwhile 44% are redirected from social networks, blogs, and ads. 50% of those who are redirected form social networks come through Facebook, 36% come through Twitter, and 7% form LinkedIn.
85% visit the website edition using their PCs, while 15% use the mobile edition, where Apple’s iPad and iPhones lead the way followed by Samsung devices, before Blackberry which tails the list.
