Game Cooks Take Tetris Beyond Space And Time

Lebanese game development house Game Cooks has recently released a new mobile game entitled Cubama for both iOS and Android. It started off as a side project while they work on their upcoming big summer title, but “it quickly turned into a full-time obsession.” The game is an endless 3D puzzle in which you tap the screen to rotate a moving 3D shaped piece in order to align it with a similarly shaped hole in oncoming walls. Slipping through the openings racks you up points. Failing to so do takes you straight back to square one.

In theory, this may sound rather simple, but i assure you, in practice, it’s much more challenging than you’d imagine. The piece only moves in one direction, anticlockwise, and as the game progresses, it gets bigger and bigger and the walls start to come at you faster. ”The game's simplicity coupled with its challenging aspect made for quite an addictive game,” according to the Game Cooks team.

There is a 2nd Chance Power-up available. It’s a one-time in-app purchase with unlimited use that grants you a second opportunity each round to keep playing and reach a higher score. The power-up is automatically activated when you hit a wall and makes you invulnerable for 4 seconds. You'll be able to purchase this power-up once you've exhausted your available tries.

The game feels like a deconstructed, futuristic Tetris. That’s because the pieces you maneuver will instantly evoke memories of the tile matching puzzle classic. Having to align and fit them into space strikes a chord as well. It’d even dare call it its worthy successor. It’s hard, but It’s very addictive. It certainly gets difficult much faster than its 2D ancestor.

The neon graphics are simple and soothing. Very tron-esque. The original musical score, a spacey tune that picks up as you progress in the game, comes courtesy of the Game Cooks themselves. The cross platform leader boards is sure to keep you on your toes and pumped for the challenge. You can also claim bragging rights on Facebook.

This is Game Cooks’ 7th title. We had already reviewed their previous game, Escape from Paradise, a platform that combines both puzzle and action elements served in jaw dropping graphics. Cubama can be found on Google’s Play Store and iTunes.
