Discover, Rate & Share Movies with Ginq, a Social Network for Movie Buffs

By Wael Nabbout | February 21, 2012 | Section: Reviews |

Simply put, Ginq.com is a social network dedicated to cinephiles. The site allows users to stay up to date with the latest releases, plan movie outings with friends, manage personal movie viewing schedule, as well as create short, 160 character long micro-reviews known as ‘Ginqs’. The site also aggregates ratings from major movie review websites and directories such as IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, and Yahoo!

The service was conceived at first by founder Ahmed Salah, a pharmacist by qualification with a penchant for programming, as a way to facilitate accessing various movie reviews and ratings on the web. The site which launched on December 14th 2011 currently averages 350 unique visitors on weekdays, and up to a thousand on weekends.

When asked how a service like Ginq could be monetized, Ahmed revealed that providing links for movies to iTunes, Amazon and Netflix could bring in profits. Selling aggregated users' data was also a viable option.

Ginq is also working on an iPhone and Android apps to be released soon.
