Hôtel-Dieu de France announced the launch of its new mobile application, a first of its kind effort in the hospital sector in Lebanon.

This new app addresses the growing need for immediate access to health care information. As patients and families are increasingly asked to be active decision makers in their health care and balance their busy schedules with their health needs, hospitals and doctors must become more accessible.

According to research2guidance, the top 10 mobile health apps generate up to four million free and 300,000 paid downloads per day globally. The firm projected that by 2017 more than 3.4 billion people will have smartphones or tablets with access to mobile health apps, and 50% of them will have downloaded health apps.

Hospital mobile apps can be broken down into three categories:

  • Marketing apps provide information, such as ER wait times, maps and directions, find a physician, and frequently called numbers. This category is used as a marketing tool to help keep the hospital top-of-mind.
  • Internal apps are designed to meet a hospital's internal needs, allowing physicians to access clinical laboratory results on their smartphones and patients’ health record for example.
  • Apps with real functionality helps patients and their families keep track of their medications, find a physician, store medical history, and stay connected with news and events.

Developed by apps2you, the HDF app provides users with access to HDF doctors contact list, HDF events and directory list. Users can get all the information about the hospital’s mission and history, the list of doctors' with their profiles, or filter doctors by medical specialty. Through the app users can also schedule medication so that no longer skip a pill.

Features include:

  • HDF Doctor's list & Hospital Directory
  • HDF Events and News
  • Manage My Medications
  • Hospital Floor Maps | Locate us
  • Health tips
  • Interactive Feedback Interface
  • All you need to Know about HDF: website, contact numbers, history...

The app is free of charge and available for download on iTunes and Google Play.
