A New Way to Socialize in the Middle East with Eventtus

Socializing with people is a daily activity we engage in; either at work, at school, on campus, the mall or any other public place. Now there’s a new fun meaning to “socialize”; Eventtus is a contemporary social-guiding application for events around you in the region where you get to explore events and be updated about your friends’ activities. But most importantly, you’ll have a chance to meet new people and socialize with them during the events through this engaging app.

We met up with Mai Medhat, Eventtus cofounder, during the ArabNet Digital Summit 2013 in Dubai and she introduced this new social network. Eventtus’s main aim is to connect people with each other so they can enjoy their times during the events by sharing photos and videos and posting them online, while checking in at their specific location.

The app is available on Android and iPhone. It enables its users to check out the latest events around the region and friends’ updates, share photos and videos during the events and comment on each other’s polls. People can organize their own events, too, and advertise them through the app by inviting people or sharing the links. There’s also an option of highlighting attendees whom you are interested in meeting during the event.

The Event Card is an interesting feature of the app; it acts as a name tag for people who are attending the event. After the event, people get to have a stack of name cards in their app of the attendees they’ve met. The app also has a "handshake" feature.

Medhat mentioned that exhibiting the app at the Digital Summit of ArabNet is a big opportunity, to meet people and collect business card from the attendees to keep them as contact information on the Eventtus app. Medhat explains how fascinating this feature is: “It’s very interesting because during those three days in ArabNet’s conference I can have a whole stack of contact information in my app.”

The cofounder mentioned that the company doesn’t have direct competitors in the region, since its main focus is the social life of events while other companies, like Event Pride, are more related to ticketing for events. “Everyone is focusing on ticketing or listing a lot of events while we are trying to change the whole experience of events from registration to check-in to networking and meeting people…” stated Medhat.

The company makes revenues out of different business models: premium and feature events and organizers. I has clients in Egypt who make reports on Eventtus. Medhat also talked about a ticketing solution that the company will be launching very soon.

As for investments, Eventtus has promising deals to be contracted soon and is still looking for potential investors in the region.

Finally the company is improving outstandingly with its progress; it created the polls feature a few months ago; the ticketing solution is on its way and it eventually plans  to expand its services throughout the Middle East, starting up with their kick-off opportunity in the Digital Summit where they found potential partners. “Here at ArabNet we are trying to build a social community for the attendees so they can engage and socialize with each other” said Medhat.

Eventtus participated in ArabNet Cairo, and ever since, they have remodeled their business and taken it to a whole new level. Watch Eventtus at ArabNet Cairo, and their interview during ArabNet Dubai 2013, to see how much they have achieved in one year.
