“I think visual has always been the trend. People are naturally more entertained, and better educated through visual means.”  - Daniel Eckler, Cofounder.

Piccsy is an image bookmarking and discovery platform. The startup which officially launched 3 days ago already receives over 30 million page views per month. Piccsy's cofounder, Daniel Eckler, is a serial entrepreneur who previously founded EveryGuyed.com and Vizualize.me. His latest venture now, Piccsy, comes hard on the heels of the visual craze that started with Pinterest, which raises the inevitable question, what makes Piccsy different? In Daniel’s own words:

“Today, the primary difference is that Piccsy's focus is on image discovery, whereas Pinterest's is on social cataloging. It will become clearer in the next 6-12 months how these focuses diverge, but for the time being, it means things like images on Piccsy are bigger, and more beautiful, without the interruption of comments and other social context that sometimes makes Pinterest difficult to look at.”

The visual trend seems to be catching on even at Microsoft, whose social project so.cl vies to enter the social space with an interface that focuses heavily on images.

“I remember seeing a presentation about why the written word has been so popular for the last few centuries, and it was suggesting that it was primarily because the printing press was invented and made writing the best way to disseminate information across the globe,” Daniel continues, “Nowadays, we have YouTube, Piccsy, and other things that make it easy to communicate visually, so you're seeing people start to adopt this media more.”

Piccsy however has a couple of tricks up its sleeve to differentiate itself and avoid troubles that haunted previous image centric networks. The team is currently developing a unique feature, named Color Search, which would enhance the image discovery process by providing relevant images based on the main colors of the picture at hand. Additionally the company is working around copyright issues by developing a technology that automatically attributes pictures to the main source.

Piccsy plans to go mobile within a week with a modified site. Apps will follow by the end of 2012.
Image fans should check out Piccsy ASAP.
