Tahrir Square Defense is the first release from Alkottab, a creation studio for games and cartoons. The game is a tower defense that mimics the events that unfold on the Febuary 2, 2011 in Tahrir Square, known as the Camel Battle (موقعة الجـِمال).

The creators have gone to great lengths to accurately replicate the events: the game play involves camels and Molotov cocktails; the accompanying audio is made up of actual sounds and chants captured during the unrest. As soon as you start playing, you will able to hear the a replay of the televised speech that marked the beginning of the incident. These nifty tricks create a quite genuine albeit eerie feel to the game.

The creators themselves were present on Tahrir Square during the revolution. They had been intercepted by civil committees and asked to leave the scene, an event that inspired this endeavor.

You can play the first 3 levels of the game for free, then you can pick between 2 packs of 6 additional levels for 3.5 EGP each. The game is currently available on Facebook, but Alkottab Cofounder Eslam Almohandes says they will soon move to mobile where monetization is better.

There are already 2 planned increments to the game, which will be released over the course of the coming year. Graphics will be improved, explains Eslam, different maps will be added, and the camera viewing angle will be freed to move around during the game play.

If you want to relive the events of the Egyptian revolution, play Tahrir Square Defense on Facebook.
