Ever since its founding in 2011, Gaza Sky Geeks’ focus has been to develop startups regionally and globally and expand education about tech entrepreneurship. “The idea came out of necessity. The unemployment rate in Gaza is so high, due to blockade and now aid cuts. There is nothing in the private sector or in NGOs, you can’t open your own company without a solid infrastructure,” said Moamin Abu Ewaida, one of Gaza Sky Geek’s founding members.

This year, Gaza Sky Geeks launched the GeeXelerator program, which is an intensive 16-week pre-seed acceleration program that aims to help teams build a usable product with only the most essential core features, validate the core product feature with users, launch the feature online for public use, and scale their product’s user base.

10 startups have been selected from this 16-week acceleration program since last May and will be pitching their ideas in the final Demo Day on the 18^th of September in front of a group of local and International judges who will review these ideas and select the top startups, two of which will receive a $10 thousand investment from Gaza Sky Geeks.

In addition, the judges will select 5 other startups to join a regional and international roadshow where they will get to meet investors and startups from around the world.

AkelApp

AkelApp is a mobile application in which users find all kinds of healthy, tasty, and fresh homemade food all around Palestine. These meals are prepared in the traditional Palestinian manner and are cheaper than similar ones prepared at a restaurant.

AkelApp is founded by Chaaban Alouan as a way to create more opportunities for the citizens of Ghaza where unemployment is dominant.

Grape

Grape is an online aggregator of the best discounts and offers from local retailers in Palestine that drives traffic to local stores by offering customers digital coupons. It is currently operating in Gaza alone and plans to expand to other cities in the upcoming months.

Khzanty

Khzanty is a platform that allows users to sell, buy and donate clothes. Users are able to donate clothes by uploading a picture of the item attaching its specifications. Afterwards, Khzanty’s experts decide whether this uploaded item is of good quality to be featured on the website for others to buy.

CarCleaner

Available for free on Google Play store, car owners in Palestine use the application for car washing services wherever they park. Customers can leave their car parked anywhere, order a car wash through this app, and leave the rest on CarCleaner.

Hera

Engaged couples in Palestine have a platform in which they can plan all aspects of their weddings. By using Hera, couples find venues, flower shops, wedding dress outlets, stores, and so much all in one single step.

Global Dental Gateway

Global Dental Gateway is a SaaS platform for dental offices that enables patients to review, select, and book the best dentists based on specialization, area, and service.

MeetScholars

MeetScholars is a web application that links successful recipients of international scholarships, scholarship advisors, and scholarship programs with prospective applicants across the region.

Students browse through the scholarship list for the one that suits them, pick a mentor to help them throughout their application, and buy sessions with the selected mentor to initiate the process of the application.

Lavender

Lavender is a web-developer that allows its customers to create a website within minutes. MENA businesses benefit from Lavender’s Arabic customization which saves them time and money.
