Appsolutely Necessary: Dynamic Notifications

We'll admit that we are a little jealous of some the Moto X features: the customizable shell, the touchless voice control, and Active Notifications. And we're sure that some of you are a little envious too.

But fear not, some intrepid developers are bringing these features to (most) Android powered phones. Great Bytes Software have brought Active Notifications to any Android device running 4.0 or higher with Dynamic Notifications.

The feature will discreetly light up the screen once you get a notification and will let you peak at it by tapping on it. You can then either unlock your phone swiping downwards, or jump straight into the app by swiping upwards. You should know that the Moto X uses an AMOLED display, which means that when the notification warning is displayed, only a portion of the screen is actually lit, which consumes very little power. Your phone probably won't be able to do that, so you might end up putting extra strain on your battery.

You can pick which apps get through to be shown. The app will not work if your phone  is in your pocket or face down to avoid accidental unlocks. And most importantly, it will respect unlock security settings.

There is a paid version of the app. For $0.99 you get "Breathing Notifications", which means that the notification will reappear at a later time if you've missed them. You can increase your privacy by omitting details from the notification screen, select how long notifications will be shown, disable notifications at night, and adjust the brightness.

As seen in the video below, the app was initially called Active Notifications. It was also only available for 4.3, but was later brought to 4.0 and above, albeit still being an experiment on these iterations according to the developers.

If you're looking to get more Moto X features, you might also want to check out Twisty Launcher to get the Quick Capture feature.
