When we read our eyes are constantly moving. After stopping at a word, they jump across wide spaces for a better peripheral vision to understand as many words as possible in one glance. Our eyes tend to overlook unimportant words, and move up and down non-stop. A normal person reads 220 words per minute on average. What if we could read about 1000 words a minute? How? Using Spritz!
Spritz is a phone app that displays one word after the other at a very quick pace, just quick enough for you to read, instead of displaying all the text lines at once. When reading, we waste a lot of time moving our eyes from word to word and from line to line. Spritz can help you save time because the screen displays the words one by one in the same place on the screen. The app uses a technique called "Rapid Serial Visual Presentation." When we fix our eyes at one point, our brain becomes able to process more words and identify their meaning. This app shows words at one fixed place at a certain speed, allowing readers to understand what they are reading easily and quickly, hence saving the time they spend looking at the page from left to right. For more efficiency, one letter is highlighted when a word is on the screen. The app also aims at facilitating reading on smaller screens and enhance memorizing texts, as well as providing a solution for languages with long words, such as German. But while Spritz proves to be a genius solution for fast reading in languages written from left to right, it still needs to answer to the needs of people who read in Arabic: from right to left.
Spritz is currently built in Samsung Galaxy S5 phone and Samasung Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch, but there are no release dates for launching the app on iOS or Android. The company stated that this app can be used for maps, videos and images with an option to view a certain part of the image repeatedly. The company promises low prices for this service. Visit the company's website for more information.
Apps similar to Spritz have been developed for other smart devices. For instance, there is ReadQuick for iOS and Sprint Reader and A Faster Reader for Android devices.
