Flick Emoji is a new Android game, developed by two Arab engineers, where players flick the screen (slide a finger upwards) to make Emojis jump from one place to the other. The sheer simplicity of the game and its focused challenge makes it an ideal choice for anyone looking to kill some time.
The purpose of the game is to jump as long as possible without falling. The higher you flick… the higher the Emoji jumps, but watch out for that fixed ceiling! If you bounce too high you’ll bounce right back down and probably lose.
The game actually misled me into thinking it was easy; but it is actually harder than it looks. Its mix of simplicity and difficulty reminded me of the Flappy Bird game in the sense that it needs a lot of patience and nerve-wrecking to be mastered. I still got a long way to achieving its mastery, though. Users get their scores posted automatically on the Google Play leaderboard to see how they stack up against their friends, so it has this competitive element to it, as well. Here's a quick preview of how the game is played:
The game follows the freemium model. Players can download the game for free, and if they want to have access to a wider selection of emojis and themes, they can do so in exchange with coins that they either bought or gained from the Google Play points they’ve collected.
The latest version of the game, released on April 2nd, includes the super cool option of creating a custom Emoji to play with. All users need to do is snap a picture of themselves and watch that picture roll and jump all over the screen. The new version also features 30 new emojis, a desert theme, and the flick meter which records how powerful each flick is.
Meet the engineers behind Flick Emoji
The creators of this game are Ramzi Azar and Iyad Baghdane, who call themselves the RAIB Developers. Both Ramzi and Iyad are full-time engineers living in Saudi Arabia whose favorite pastime is to explore mobile apps. Flick Emoji was their first experiment, and even though it is still very young, it is proving to be a growing success.
“We noticed that the most addictive games are the simple yet challenging ones, where users addictively try to do better. That’s the core of Flick Emoji,” says Rami Azar. “At this early stage, we are simply relying on social media and word of mouth to spread the word.”
“Our key emphasis was to develop something that our customers can relate to,” explains Iyad. “That’s one reason why we have created the WhatsApp theme. Our users will feel they are playing with their chat box using all the emojis they love. That’s also how we got the idea of adding the Customized Emoji feature.”
RAIB Developers are currently focused on improving Flick Emoji on Android , and are also working to release an iOS version soon.
