One in every three employers will reject a candidate based on something found in their social profiles, according to a recent study published as an infographic by Staff.com blog. The infographic shows how companies utilize social media for hiring talents.
The study found out that 3 in every 4 hiring managers in North America check candidates’ social profiles, even if they weren't provided in the resumes. Up to 78% of recruiters disapprove of posts about illegal drugs, and 67% disapprove of posts which are sexual in nature.
Moreover, 73% of these companies hired successfully using social media, and 20% of them said that “online recruiting takes less time.” Also, 42% of companies said that candidates’ quality has improved, thanks to social media job scouting.
Concerning the websites, LinkedIn retained its leading spot as the premier website for recruiting, as 93% of the companies of the study used the website as of 2012, a percentage that grew from 78% in 2010. Facebook came second with 66% and Twitter third with 54%.
Regarding the employee referrals, 31% of companies saw an increase in referrals, while 65% of recruiters compensate employees for referrals.
14.4 million employees in the US turned to social media to search for their dream job. Furthermore, 29% of job seekers in general use social media as their primary tool for job hunting.
