Competition Roundup, Results, an Apology, and the Conclusion

To the sound of keystrokes and the smell of competitiveness, development environments got spun in moments and code got written by all 16 competitors who made it to the final ArabNet Developer Tournament Championship round in Dubai, part of the ArabNet Developer Tournament. A majestic stage was specially built for the competitors and the eyes and thoughts of passers-by were stolen by the geniusness of the competitors.

Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon and the UAE. Four competitors from each one of these countries fought their way through three rounds of coding. Time was of the essence throughout the 9-hour competition. The attendees of the ArabNet Digital Summit, awaiting the results of each round, got introduced to the developers, their countries, and how they won. The big screen was not just stating what happened; it was telling the story of how four great developers got together from each country and have, individually, made it to Dubai to participate in the biggest skill-based competition for web and mobile developers in Arabia.

The Results

The competition was hectic! Papers flying by, judges doing their judging, and coders doing their coding! At the end it was obvious who needs to learn some more and who's going home with $8000 cash and the title of Best Competing Web & Mobile Developer.

An Apology

I would like to personally apologize to Roy Naufal from Lebanon and Faris Issa from Jordan. I have made an error in Roy's score of the last round (which was super exciting, I'll be writing a more detailed description on each round later. Stay tuned!). Roy was supposed to get 10 points for the last round, and because of that error, he got only 1 point. Unfortunately, the error meant that Roy got knocked out to the fourth place instead of his rightful third-place. Of course that means that Faris Issa will sadly become in the fourth place. We paid great attention to the structure of judging and points distribution, but unfortunately we had still made that error. We sincerely apologize for any trouble we have created for both Faris and Roy because of this.

The Results

During the championship, we kept score for both individual competitors and Tournament Country Score, which was the sum of the score of its competitors.

Let's check some pictures before we get to the results:

Lebanese Team

Jordanian Team

Saudi Team

UAE Team

Now. Without further ado, here are the results:

The title of Winning Country Team went to Lebanon! The Lebanese team harnessed 221.1

And the top three winners according to the new score distribution:

First Place: Morgante Pell, UAE/US

Third Place: Roy Naufal, from Lebanon

and in Second Place: George Frewat, from Lebanon

Conclusion

Well, we've all learnt a lot from the Tournament. What we're mostly glad about is that we successfully met the initial goal we've started this endeavor for: to present Arab developers with the opportunity they deserve to show their talent, learn from each other and get better opportunities to advance their career.

Keep a close eye onto our  Twitter and Facebook accounts. The next Developer Tournament is right around the corner ;)
